Tookii things to do with kids valentines day

Valentine’s Day

What to do today? Apparently today is Valentine’s Day and this morning I am wondering what to do with that information. I have looked into the history of Valentine’s and it’s dissatisfying to say the least. It seems no one is very sure what it’s all about really.

They think it might have began as a celebration called Lupercalia and been changed to Valentine’s by the Christian religion, but no one seems to be sure which Valentine it is that the day is named after. Something that may have began as a celebration in the nude except for a goat skin (what did the goat ever do?) Then ‘Christianized’ to mean love and make the whole thing a little less … well … nude I guess? Then became a time for love letters, secret admirers, flowers, cards, jewellery and marriage proposals.

Why am I confused?

Lacking any solid facts about the meaning behind the day, I think I will just go with the flow and take the day at face value.

It’s seems people see it as a day of showing love, admitting new love and deepening their commitment to existing love – there’s never too much of that in the world so I’m happy enough with that.

For me I think I’ll just spend time with Mum. I have a lot of study to get done today but I think I’ll catch up with her and take her to lunch. SSsshhh I hope she doesn’t read this. Before lunch anyway lol. What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day? Any special stories? And how will you spend the day?

  1. I have written a blog regarding Valentine ‘s Day a few years ago. I see it as Christmas of the hearts. Whether it’s romantic or friendly love, whether it’s for a romantic interest or for friends or family, it’s a day for showing affection. Everyday is V-day, not only today. It’s how you deal with it that matters. It’s the thought that counts! Enjoy your special moment with your Mom today!
