First Fishing

When it comes to finding things to do with kids it’s great to have a mix of things that they do often, so they can get good at it, and things that are new to try.

I’m not too sure if this day was the first time I ever went fishing but if it’s not the first it would definitely be one of the first.

I can’t remember exactly where we were on this day, somewhere just out of Adelaide in South Australia, I think, but I don’t remember the name. No matter where I was I was very busy fishing. So I thought. I thought I was doing a great job and working hard at catching a fish and at any minute I was sure to have a fish for dinner.

I thought that fishing (and the way to catch a fish) was to wind the line in. I mean – that is what happens EVERY time someone catches a fish. There they are, winding the line in when suddenly there’s a fish. Now I know that there isn’t a fish EVERY time someone winds a fishing line in BUT one thing IS for sure – EVERY time a fish is caught there IS someone winding the line in.

There was a small group of us fishing on the jetty on this day and they all spent most of their day casting their line back out because (as you may have guessed by now) I spent the day walking from line to line, winding them all back in.

No … I don’t think we caught any fish. I don’t know that any lines stayed in the water long enough lol
