Pancake Day

Things to do with kids having a routine of some sort is good for them, although we might complain A.L.L T.H.E T.I.M.E and it’s always nice to have something to look forward to in the schedule.

Do your kids like pancakes? … why not have a pancake day?

I stay at my Nanna’s house some nights, mostly Tuesday nights if I can, because Wednesday at Nanna’s house is PANCAKE DAY !! πŸ˜€

Tookii with pancakes
Pancakes for breakfast

Every Wednesday morning Nanna gets up and cooks pancakes in time for breakfast. For busy working parents perhaps a weekend day would suit you better? Perhaps Mum and Dad can take turns each week to do the cooking?

Making pancakes doesn’t have to be hard. You can even buy pancake power in a bottle that you just add water to and shake – just pop the pan on the stove and you’re away. No big mess to clean up afterwards.

If you don’t like pancakes try waffle day or bacon day instead.

  1. We call pancakes by another name—hotcakes. While growing up, sometimes, we have pancakes for lunch/supper,together with other types of foods. It’s ismilar to eating eggs anytime of the day/night and not just for breakfast. In other countries, the pancakes’ cousins are eaten in different times of the day /night. For example—in France, you have the crepes and in Russia, you have the blinis and both of them are paired with other types of food like cream, salmon, cheese, etc.

      1. I have been called Miss Trivia when I was your age , with an almost photographic memory for detail. That’s their opinion, not mine. Am touched that you appreciate my input. My ideas just sprout out if need be.

      1. If you mean on the pancakes, I would go for anything meaty with sweet sauce over it,whether it’s maple, honey, hotcake syrup ,sweet-sour sauce or even ketchup. Just the combined sweet-salty taste of the toppings and sauce make the pancales as a full meal,IMO.

      1. I personally like strawberries. My older two kids like blueberries and syrup. My 2 year old eats them plain (no syrup or toppings).

  2. We love pancakes. We have them at least once a week. In fact, we had them today! We like to add our fruit into our batter before they reach the frying pan. Here’s our favourite recipes:

      1. We’ve never put a topping on ours. They’re sweet enough as they are straight from the frying pan. That’s not to say you can’t of course πŸ™‚

  3. When I was growing up, quite often we would do “breakfast” for our Sunday evening meal. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, sometimes fruit. Always yummy. With my children we didn’t have a set day for pancakes or waffles but we usually had them once a week, particularly during the winter. And always when they had friends sleep over. Here’s another trick to try, if you haven’t already, add chocolate chips to the batter for chocolate chip pancakes!

    1. Adding choc chips !! 😍😍 What a great idea !! That is so funny – we had a tea with friends last Monday and Mum couldn’t think of a new theme so she did breakfast lol it’s good to hear other do this too and it’s not just us lol. What topping would normally go on a choc-chip pancake? What is your all time favorite pancake topping?

      1. With chocolate chip pancakes they are good by themselves, but possibly whipped cream would be good on them. As for my favorite topping….I’m pretty simple. I like just plain old butter and syrup, though I like my syrup heated first. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you πŸ™‚ Yes I have just been educated on the choc chip pancake and also adding fruit to the batter (above) I intend to try them all. I am also interested in trying some new toppings so I’m seeing what everyone likes. What is your favorite topping?

      1. My favorite is real maple syrup. My daughter loves hers with peanut butter. My son eats his plain (he’s a super picky eater). I use mini chocolate chips instead of the full size chips, but both work. We just like the minis best for pancakes. πŸ™‚
